Job Overview
The Director Refinery Optimization is responsible for developing and implementing optimization strategies to enhance the efficiency, profitability, and sustainability of refinery operations. This role involves utilizing advanced analytical tools and techniques, including linear programming models, to improve process performance, optimize production planning, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that optimization efforts align with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Optimization Strategy Development:
- Design and implement optimization strategies to improve refinery operations, including feedstock selection, product blending, and process unit performance.
- Utilize linear programming (LP) and other advanced modeling techniques to develop and maintain refinery optimization models.
- Growth Project Investments
- Identify projects that increase net margin at the facility through analysis of refinery constraints, margin analysis and capital evaluation
- Work across functions (engineering, operations, commercial) to develop business plans for capital project execution
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical support and expertise to refinery operations, troubleshooting optimization-related issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to optimization models, methodologies, and best practices.
- Production Planning:
- Collaborate with production planners to create and adjust refinery production plans based on market conditions, feedstock availability, and operational constraints.
- Ensure production plans maximize profitability while meeting quality and regulatory standards.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze production data, economic indicators, and market trends to support decision-making processes.
- Prepare and present detailed reports and recommendations to senior management on optimization efforts and outcomes.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines, operations, commercial teams, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of optimization activities with overall business goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in refinery optimization, process engineering, or a related role within the refining or petrochemical industry.
- Proficiency in linear programming and advanced optimization tools (e.g., Aspen PIMS, HYSYS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and economic evaluation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
